Welcome to the website of Samuel Whitesell! Samuel is located in Burlington, Vermont, where he works as a private piano instructor and a versatile freelance musician.
Samuel has training and performing experience in both the classical and jazz worlds, enabling him to serve in a wide variety of musical contexts. His performing experience includes solo and collaborative classical piano playing, solo and ensemble jazz piano playing, accompanying for choirs, churches, and theater productions, and performing in various rock, pop, and traditional music groups.
Samuel currently serves as pianist and accompanist to the choir at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington, Vermont, and has served recently as accompanist for the Chorale at Johnson Sate College (now Northern Vermont University), accompanist for the Vermont Youth Chorus at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, accompanist for the Burlington Chamber Orchestra's Concerto Competition, and accompanist for students at the Vermont All-State Music Festival in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Samuel concertizes and performs regularly around Vermont with a variety of musical groups including his own, often performing his own original music. See the Events page for Samuel's upcoming public performances!
Samuel also loves providing beautiful music for special events including weddings, house concerts, private parties, and services of remembrance and celebrations of life.
Samuel particularly enjoys performing music for and with children and seniors. Samuel regularly accompanies the middle school choirs at the Shelburne Community School in Shelburne, Vermont, performs for the Rug Concerts for ages 5 and under at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, and performs piano music and conducts sing-alongs for seniors at the Ethan Allen Residence in the New North End of Burlington, Vermont.
Samuel completed his M.M. (2014) and B.M. (2005) in piano performance with honors from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam with concentrations in piano pedagogy and a minor in jazz studies.
